Indian Oil supports the incorporation of biodiesel production into current refineries to achieve the 5% biodiesel blending goal.

New Delhi, October 28, 2024 – Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), one of India’s largest oil and gas companies, has announced its commitment to integrate biodiesel production into its existing refinery operations. This initiative aims to support the government’s ambitious target of achieving a 5% blending of biodiesel in the nation’s fuel supply.

In a recent press conference, IOC’s spokesperson emphasized the importance of sustainable energy solutions in combating climate change and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. “Incorporating biodiesel production into our current refineries not only aligns with our environmental goals but also enhances energy security for the country,” they stated.

The blending of biodiesel, derived from renewable resources such as vegetable oils and animal fats, is seen as a critical step toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting cleaner fuel alternatives. As part of this initiative, IOC plans to invest in technology upgrades and collaborations with local farmers and producers to ensure a steady supply of biodiesel feedstock.

Industry experts have welcomed IOC’s announcement, noting that it could significantly boost the biodiesel market in India, which has seen slow growth due to logistical and production challenges. “This move could catalyze investment in the biodiesel sector and create jobs, while also promoting sustainable agricultural practices,” said Dr. Ramesh Gupta, an energy analyst.

The government has set a goal of achieving 5% biodiesel blending by 2030, and IOC’s proactive stance is expected to play a pivotal role in meeting this target. The initiative is also in line with the larger national objective of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, Indian Oil has been actively exploring various green energy solutions, including ethanol blending and solar energy initiatives. With this latest endeavor, the company reinforces its dedication to fostering a cleaner, greener future for India.

The announcement has garnered positive responses from environmental advocates, who see it as a significant step toward reducing the country’s carbon footprint. As India continues to navigate the complexities of energy transition, IOC’s integration of biodiesel production into its refineries marks a promising development in the pursuit of renewable energy sources.
